Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially inaugurated 'Addis Mesob,' a pioneering mobile digital one-stop service center designed to revolutionize how government services are delivered to the public. Developed by the Addis Ababa City Administration, this initiative aims to bring essential administrative functions directly to the doorsteps of citizens, eliminating the need for residents to travel to multiple government institutions.
The 'Addis Mesob' service is housed within specially modified, high-tech buses. These mobile units are equipped with advanced technological infrastructure, including Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) for high-speed network connectivity and solar panels to provide a sustainable alternative power source. To ensure a smooth user experience, the buses feature automated queue management systems and integrated digital payment options, allowing for a seamless and transparent transaction process. Additionally, the units are fitted with security cameras to maintain safety and accountability during service delivery.
A wide array of essential services will be available through these mobile hubs, including the issuance of Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN), the processing and renewal of business licenses, and medical examinations required for driver's licenses. Residents can also renew residency IDs, register births, and handle vehicle-related tasks such as driver's license issuance and plate renewals. Furthermore, the mobile centers facilitate road fund payments via the Ethiopian Postal Service, National ID registration and data correction, and prepaid electricity services through the Ethiopian Electric Utility.
This initiative marks a significant step in Ethiopia's digital transformation journey. By leveraging mobile technology and renewable energy, the government seeks to enhance accessibility, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and improve the overall efficiency of urban governance in the capital. The launch of 'Addis Mesob' reflects a growing trend of utilizing 'GovTech' solutions to meet the needs of a rapidly modernizing population.
