Latest News

The Ministry of Industry has announced the upcoming fourth edition of the Ethiopia Tamirt 10-Kilometer Road Race, a significant event aimed at bolstering the nation's manufacturing sector and promoting a vibrant sports culture. Scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026 (Miazia 18, 2018 E.C.), the race will commence from the iconic Meskel Square in Addis Ababa.

Organized under the inspiring motto "Ethiopia Tamirt for Comprehensive Sovereignty," the road race serves as a crucial promotional component of the broader Ethiopia Tamirt (Made in Ethiopia) Expo. This national initiative is designed to invigorate Ethiopia's manufacturing industry, encouraging local production to meet domestic demand and fostering economic growth through increased exports of diverse Ethiopian-made products. The government views the "Ethiopia Tamirt" movement as pivotal for achieving self-reliance and strengthening the national economy.

Beyond its direct economic objectives, the 10K race is poised to play a multifaceted role in national development. It seeks to enhance Ethiopia's positive international image, showcasing the country's capabilities and potential. Furthermore, the event aims to embed sports more deeply into the national culture, promoting healthy lifestyles and community engagement. A key aspect of this cultural promotion is the introduction and popularization of sports equipment manufactured within Ethiopia, highlighting the nation's growing industrial capacity in various sectors.

The race is expected to draw a substantial turnout, with over fifteen thousand participants anticipated. This diverse group will include numerous elite athletes representing various clubs, independent competitors, high-ranking government officials, and members of the diplomatic community, underscoring the event's national importance and broad appeal. Their participation symbolizes a collective commitment to the "Ethiopia Tamirt" vision.

To incentivize top performance and celebrate athletic excellence, significant prize money will be awarded to the leading finishers in both male and female categories. The first-place winners will each receive 550,000 Ethiopian Birr, while second-place finishers will be awarded 300,000 Birr. Third-place contenders will take home 200,000 Birr, recognizing their achievements and encouraging competitive spirit.

The Ministry of Industry reiterates its commitment to the "Ethiopia Tamirt" initiative, emphasizing that events like this road race are instrumental in achieving the nation's goals of comprehensive sovereignty through industrial growth and cultural promotion. The race is not merely a sporting competition but a powerful statement of national ambition and progress.
