Fatal Bus Crash in Addis Ababa Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

A tragic traffic accident in Addis Ababa has resulted in one fatality and left three others with serious injuries, according to the Addis Ababa Police Commission. The incident occurred on the morning of April 1, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM local time in the Lemi Kura Sub-city, specifically near the 'Tebaberut' square.

Authorities report that an Alliance public transport bus (Plate Code 3A-41968) was traveling downhill from Abem toward Tebaberut when it lost control. The bus collided with two Vitz vehicles (Plate Codes 3-35090 and 3B-57071) that were traveling from Ayat toward CMC. Following the collisions, the bus veered off the road and overturned at the square.

Tragically, the driver of the pickup vehicle involved in the crash died at the scene. Among the three individuals who sustained serious injuries are two female students, currently in the 7th and 5th grades, respectively, as well as the driver of one of the Vitz vehicles. All injured parties are currently receiving medical treatment.

In a statement following the incident, the Addis Ababa Police emphasized the critical importance of road safety. They urged all drivers to remain vigilant, consistently monitor road conditions, and maintain full control of their vehicles, especially when navigating challenging terrain or steep gradients. The police department expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the accident.
