The announcement was made by City Mayor Ato Tiratu Beyene, who also presented a comprehensive report on the successful completion of the second and third phases of corridor development.

Mayor Tiratu Beyene lauded the remarkable contributions of Hawassa residents, who played a crucial role in the success of the completed projects. He highlighted that citizens voluntarily demolished fences and structures, saving the government over 358 million Birr in expenses and demonstrating a strong sense of community ownership and initiative.

The completed second and third phases have already brought substantial improvements to the city's infrastructure. Key achievements include: * The development of 10.1 kilometers of main urban corridors. * The construction of 6.5 kilometers of new asphalt roads. * The creation of 19.1 kilometers of dedicated pedestrian and bicycle paths, promoting sustainable urban mobility. * The modernization of utility infrastructure, with electricity and telecommunication lines now running underground, enhancing aesthetics and reliability. * Extensive green development works, contributing to a more environmentally friendly and visually appealing urban landscape.

Beyond core infrastructure, these phases also saw the construction of vital public amenities, including 17 new parking spaces, 5 modern taxi terminals, 5 children's playgrounds, 8 sports facilities, and 17 contemporary public restrooms. These additions are designed to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

A significant outcome of these development initiatives has been the creation of over 3,100 job opportunities for young people, providing crucial economic empowerment and contributing to local livelihoods.

Addressing the needs of residents impacted by the development, Mayor Tiratu Beyene confirmed that the government provided six months' rent assistance to those fully displaced. He further announced plans to construct and hand over new homes to these residents in line with the city's ongoing development strategy.

The Mayor extended his gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the projects, including the dedicated residents of Hawassa, the regional government, city leaders, contractors, media partners, and volunteers.

Looking ahead, Mayor Ato Tiratu Beyene officially unveiled the routes for the upcoming fourth phase of corridor development. These new corridors will span critical areas of the city, connecting: * South Star to Shell * South Star to Gorgorada neighborhood * Sumuda to Logita * Tikur Wuha to South Spring

In addition to the corridor expansion, the highly anticipated Hawassa Lakefront Project was also announced. This initiative aims to further enhance the city's iconic lake area, promising new recreational and public spaces. Mayor Tiratu Beyene concluded by urging all citizens to actively participate in the successful execution of the Hawassa Lake Project, emphasizing a collective effort for the city's future prosperity.
