In a recent address regarding the growing influence of social media, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed provided a detailed explanation of the government's stance on TikTok. The Prime Minister stated that the government fully supports young people who use the platform for innovative creative works and economic self-sufficiency. However, he issued a stern reminder that this digital freedom should not be exercised in a way that violates the country's long-standing culture, traditions, and core values.
He advised the youth to be discerning when interacting with global trends, suggesting they should selectively adopt only the beneficial aspects of foreign influences. The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of communal guidance, noting that it is necessary to advise and correct those whose actions fall outside of Ethiopian social norms. He concluded by stressing that ensuring the well-being of the next generation is a collective responsibility, and it is the duty of all citizens to promote only positive and constructive content.
